According to the U.S. government, small businesses have historically provided over 50 percent of all jobs and 64 percent of all net new jobs. Small businesses are especially crucial in inner-city communities, where they make up 99 percent of all establishments and 80 percent of jobs. New small business owners, however, face a tough economic reality: about half of them will fail in the first five years.

CEO’s small business programs promote economic growth in economically distressed and emerging communities by enlisting Americans with business expertise to help local entrepreneurs compete and succeed. CEO believes that public service from experienced business leaders and organizations can help entrepreneurs develop the strategic, management, and operational capacity to compete in the marketplace and contribute to the development of their communities.
