Why Economic Opportunity

Lexy Funk, chief executive officer and founder of Brooklyn Industries, is helping her mentee, Susan Doban, expand her architecture and design business.

During his Administration, President Clinton provided leadership that created a stronger American economy and more opportunity for its people. His Presidency saw historic job growth, rising incomes, more small business creation, and private sector investment in traditionally underserved communities.

Amid today’s economic downturn, however, too many people struggle to make ends meet, too many entrepreneurs struggle to grow their businesses, and too many communities are being left behind. The American Dream — earning a good living, raising a family in comfort, retiring with dignity, and giving future generations the opportunity to have better lives — is no longer a reality for many people, families, and communities in the United States.

How the Foundation Makes a Difference

Even before the current economic crisis began, the Foundation worked on a number of projects advancing economic progress in the United States — from providing pro bono consulting services to New York City small business owners to helping survivors of Hurricane Katrina access the Earned Income Tax Credit benefit.

Today the Foundation is building on President Clinton’s long-term commitment to economic advancement by promoting business-to-business public service in communities across the United States. Through the Entrepreneur Mentoring Program, the Consulting Program, and other strategic partnerships, CEO connects entrepreneurs to the support, ideas, and tools that can help them compete and succeed in the marketplace.
