Mahetle's Story
Mahetle is a 5 year old who lives with his grandmother because his mother works most of the year in South Africa. He lost his father to AIDS two years ago. Although he is not as stunted as many other children with AIDS, in fact Mahetle's growth curve shows that he has been failing to thrive for the last three years. He has had repeated bouts of pneumonia and will be starting on antiretrovirals in the next few weeks.
